Jonathan Kuminga is heading to Minnesota.
The 23-year-old forward has agreed to a two-year, $13 million deal with the Minnesota Timberwolves, including a player option, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
Kuminga is expected to move straight into the starting lineup alongside Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball, Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert.
It ends one of the remaining major free-agency storylines of the summer and gives Minnesota another athletic scoring threat as it looks to contend in the Western Conference.
Kuminga chooses Minnesota
Kuminga's future had remained unresolved deep into the offseason, with Minnesota and the Los Angeles Lakers emerging as the two leading destinations for the forward.
The Timberwolves have now won that race.
Minnesota can offer Kuminga something particularly important at this stage of his career: a significant role on a team with ambitions of challenging near the top of the West.
At just 23, there is also still plenty of room for him to develop.
Another weapon alongside Edwards and Ball
Minnesota's starting five suddenly looks fascinating.
Kuminga is expected to join Anthony Edwards, LaMelo Ball, Jaden McDaniels and Rudy Gobert, giving the Timberwolves an intriguing combination of scoring, playmaking, athleticism and defence.
Ball arrived in Minnesota earlier this offseason, giving Edwards a new playmaking partner in the backcourt.
Adding Kuminga now gives the Wolves another explosive athlete capable of attacking the basket and creating pressure in transition.
A fresh opportunity for Kuminga
For Kuminga, the move offers the opportunity for a fresh start and a clearly defined role.
The former No. 7 overall pick has shown flashes of significant upside during his NBA career, but establishing himself consistently has proved more difficult.
Minnesota now gives him the chance to become an important part of a team expecting to compete immediately.
The player option also gives Kuminga flexibility over his future should he thrive in his new surroundings.
Minnesota keeps pushing
This has already been a significant offseason for the Timberwolves.
The acquisition of LaMelo Ball reshaped their backcourt, and adding Kuminga gives Minnesota another major piece heading into 2026-27.
There's considerable talent in that projected starting five.
The bigger question is how quickly all the pieces fit together.
Minnesota clearly believes Kuminga can help provide the answer, and after weeks of uncertainty surrounding his future, we finally know where he'll be playing next season.
