Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are
Lean Edge Sports is a free NBA statistics website operated by an individual based in England, United Kingdom. We can be contacted at hello@leanedgesports.com.
This policy explains what personal data we collect, why we collect it, and your rights under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
2. What Data We Collect
Contact form submissions. When you use the contact form on our website, we collect your name, email address, and the message you send. This data is submitted through Netlify Forms and forwarded to our email inbox. We use it only to respond to your enquiry.
No account data. Lean Edge Sports does not require you to create an account. We do not collect passwords, payment information, or any personal profile data.
Analytics (only if you consent). If you accept our cookie banner, we use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our website — for example, which pages are popular and how people navigate the site. This collects aggregated, non-identifying usage data such as pages viewed, approximate location (country/city level), device type, and referral source. We do not use this data for advertising and do not sell it. See Section 3 for how the consent choice works, and our Google Analytics entry in Section 5 for more detail.
Advertising. This website displays ads served by Google AdSense. Google may set cookies or use similar technologies to serve ads, measure their performance, and — where you've consented — personalise them based on your browsing activity. See Section 3 for how that consent choice works and our Google AdSense entry in Section 5 for more detail.
3. Cookies & Consent
This site uses two separate consent mechanisms, for two separate purposes.
Analytics. When you first visit Lean Edge Sports, you'll see our own banner asking whether you're happy for us to use Google Analytics. Nothing analytics-related loads until you click "Accept." If you click "Decline," Google Analytics is never requested and no analytics cookies are set. Your choice is remembered on your device (via local storage) so you're not asked again on future visits.
Advertising. This site displays ads served by Google AdSense, which may use cookies or similar technologies to serve and measure ads. If you're browsing from the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, Google shows its own separate consent message asking whether you're happy for ads to be personalised — that choice is handled entirely by Google, not by us, and governs Google's ad-related cookies specifically. Outside those regions, Google may serve ads without this additional prompt, consistent with standard AdSense practice. We also set one small, strictly necessary cookie (leanedge-region) that records only the broad region you're browsing from, so our site knows whether to show our own analytics banner or defer to Google's consent message. It holds no personal or identifying information and is set regardless of your cookie choice.
You can change your analytics preference at any time: , or clear your browser's site data for this domain to reset it. To change your ad preferences, use the controls in Google's own consent message, or visit Google Ads Settings.
4. Local Storage
Our Comparison Tool saves your favourite comparisons to your browser's local storage. This data never leaves your device and is not accessible to us. Your cookie consent choice (see Section 3) is stored the same way. You can clear either at any time by clearing your browser's site data.
5. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services which may process data as part of delivering this website:
- Google Analytics — only loaded if you accept our cookie banner (see Section 3). Collects aggregated, non-identifying data about how visitors use this website (pages viewed, approximate location, device type, referral source) so we can understand and improve the site. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google AdSense — displays ads on this website. Google may use cookies or similar technologies to serve ads, measure their performance, and — where consent is required (EEA, UK, Switzerland) — personalise ads based on your activity, via Google's own consent message rather than ours (see Section 3). See how Google uses information from sites that use its services and Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google Fonts — loads fonts from Google's servers. Google may collect limited technical data such as your IP address when fonts are requested. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Netlify — hosts Lean Edge Sports and processes contact form submissions made through Netlify Forms. We use submitted contact details only to receive and respond to your enquiry. See Netlify's Privacy Statement.
- Anthropic (Trades page) — our NBA Trades page uses the Anthropic API to fetch confirmed trade information via web search. No personal data is sent to Anthropic as part of this feature.
- Netlify — this website is hosted on Netlify. Netlify may log standard server access data (IP addresses, page requests) as part of routine hosting operations. See Netlify's Privacy Policy.
6. Legal Basis for Processing
Where we process personal data via the contact form, we do so on the basis of legitimate interests — specifically, our interest in being able to respond to enquiries sent to us. We only use the data for the purpose it was provided.
Where we use Google Analytics, we do so on the basis of your consent, given via the cookie banner described in Section 3. You can withdraw this consent at any time using the "manage your cookie preference" control in that section.
Where Google AdSense personalises ads, the legal basis is your consent, collected via Google's own consent message in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland. Outside those regions, Google may serve ads on another legal basis available to it under applicable law. We don't control this directly — see the Google AdSense entry in Section 5 and Google's linked policies for how Google itself describes its legal basis.
7. Data Retention
Contact form messages received via email are retained for as long as reasonably necessary to address your enquiry, and no longer than 12 months unless we have an ongoing reason to keep them.
8. Your Rights
Under UK GDPR you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Erase your data (the "right to be forgotten")
- Object to processing based on legitimate interests, or withdraw consent at any time for analytics or (where applicable) ad personalisation
- Complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you believe we have not handled your data lawfully
To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at hello@leanedgesports.com.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page indicates when it was last revised. Significant changes will be noted here.
