The Charlotte Hornets are continuing to shuffle the final spot on their offseason roster.
Charlotte has signed guard Jarkel Joiner while waiving Kyle Mangas, bringing Mangas' stay with the Hornets to an end just one day after his signing was announced.
Joiner has reportedly signed an Exhibit 10 contract, giving the 27-year-old another opportunity to compete for an NBA roster place during training camp.
For Mangas, however, being waived may simply represent the next step in Charlotte's G League plans rather than the end of his relationship with the organisation.
Mangas' Hornets Stay Lasts Just One Day
Charlotte signed Mangas after waiving Trey Townsend, filling the final spot on its 21-man offseason roster.
Less than 24 hours later, the Hornets have used that spot again.
Mangas has now been waived as Charlotte brings Joiner into the organisation.
The rapid turnaround highlights the fluid nature of NBA offseason rosters, particularly for players competing on non-guaranteed and training-camp contracts.
Mangas' NBA dream may not be over, however.
The Greensboro Swarm acquired his returning G League rights earlier this offseason, and NBA.com now reports that his release suggests Charlotte intends for him to play with its G League affiliate this season.
# Who Is Jarkel Joiner?
Joiner is a 6-foot-1 guard who went undrafted in the 2023 NBA Draft after finishing his college career at NC State.
He has spent his first three professional seasons primarily in the G League and has previously signed Exhibit 10 contracts with both the Atlanta Hawks and Toronto Raptors.
Joiner spent last season with Raptors 905, Toronto's G League affiliate.
NBA.com lists him at 6-foot-1 and 181 pounds, while Charlotte's current roster now officially includes him among the Hornets' guards.
Another Training Camp Opportunity
Joiner's Exhibit 10 deal gives him an opportunity to compete for a place on Charlotte's roster during training camp.
According to NBA.com's latest player update, he averaged 10.9 points, 2.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists across 49 G League appearances with Raptors 905 last season.
It is a familiar situation for Joiner.
He signed Exhibit 10 contracts with Atlanta in both 2023 and 2024 before joining Toronto on another Exhibit 10 agreement in 2025.
Now Charlotte becomes the latest NBA organisation to give him an opportunity.
Charlotte Keeps Cycling Through Its Final Roster Spot
The Hornets have been particularly active with the final position on their 21-man offseason roster.
First came Trey Townsend.
Then came Kyle Mangas.
Now it belongs to Jarkel Joiner.
That doesn't necessarily mean Charlotte views each move as a traditional NBA signing.
Exhibit 10 and similar offseason contracts allow teams to evaluate players during the preseason while also helping organisations build out their G League pipeline.
For Joiner, the immediate goal will be making enough of an impression during training camp to remain in Charlotte's plans.
For Mangas, the next destination could already be waiting just down the road in Greensboro.
