The Golden State Warriors have added another guard to their roster, agreeing a one-year, $2.6 million deal with free agent Brandon Williams.
The 26-year-old heads to Golden State after spending the last three seasons with the Dallas Mavericks.
Williams enjoyed the best season of his NBA career in 2025-26, averaging 13 points and 3.9 assists in 22.2 minutes per game across 66 appearances.
Williams gives Golden State another scoring option
Williams arrives after establishing himself as a useful rotation player in Dallas.
He shot 47.2% from the field last season while averaging career highs in points and assists.
His speed and ability to attack off the dribble should give Golden State another option in a backcourt built around Stephen Curry.
Williams also gives the Warriors another player capable of creating offence from the bench rather than relying entirely on their established guards.
A career year in Dallas
Williams' route to Golden State hasn't been straightforward.
After going undrafted in 2021, he began his NBA career with the Portland Trail Blazers before spending time in the G League.
He joined Dallas on a two-way contract in December 2023 before eventually earning a standard NBA deal.
Last season represented his biggest opportunity yet.
Williams appeared in 66 games for the Mavericks and averaged 13 points, 3.9 assists and 2.9 rebounds while shooting 47.2% from the field.
Where does Williams fit with the Warriors?
Golden State isn't bringing Williams in to become one of the focal points of the team.
The Warriors already have Stephen Curry and several other options in the backcourt, but Williams provides something useful off the bench.
His ability to get downhill and attack the basket gives Golden State another way to create offence when Curry isn't on the floor.
The biggest question remains his outside shooting after Williams connected on just 23.2% of his three-point attempts last season.
On a one-year, $2.6 million deal, however, it's a relatively low-risk addition for the Warriors.
Golden State still has work to do
Williams becomes Golden State's first outside free-agent acquisition of the offseason.
His signing takes the Warriors to 14 standard roster spots, leaving one position still available.
For Williams, it's another opportunity to build on the best season of his NBA career.
For Golden State, it's a relatively inexpensive gamble on a 26-year-old guard who showed in Dallas that he can provide scoring from the bench.
