Oklahoma City Thunder rookie guard Otega Oweh will miss the remainder of the 2026–27 NBA season after suffering a ruptured right Achilles tendon.
The Thunder confirmed on Wednesday, October 14, that Oweh underwent a successful surgical procedure at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. The operation was performed by Dr. Martin O'Malley, with Thunder medical personnel present.
The injury occurred during Oklahoma City's preseason game against the Indiana Pacers on Tuesday, October 13. Oweh was injured during overtime and required assistance leaving the court.
The 23-year-old guard was selected with the 41st overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft and signed a two-way contract with Oklahoma City in July.
Oweh joined the Thunder after a college career that included spells at Oklahoma and Kentucky. In his final season at Kentucky, he averaged 18.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.8 steals per game.
The injury brings an early end to Oweh's first NBA season before he has the opportunity to make his regular-season debut.
Oklahoma City has not announced a specific return date beyond confirming that he will miss the remainder of the season. Further updates will be provided as appropriate.
