The Orlando Magic have added two more players ahead of training camp.
Orlando has officially signed Malaki Branham and JD Davison, with both guards joining the Magic on Exhibit 10 contracts.
The moves give Orlando additional competition heading into the preseason while providing two players with NBA experience another opportunity to earn a place on a regular-season roster.
For Branham in particular, it represents an interesting opportunity for a former first-round pick who is still only 23 years old.
Another Opportunity for Malaki Branham
Branham was selected by the San Antonio Spurs with the 20th overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft after one season at Ohio State.
He spent his first three NBA seasons with San Antonio before being traded to Washington in 2025.
Branham appeared in 28 games for the Wizards last season, averaging 4.6 points and 1.6 rebounds per game.
He was later moved to Charlotte and waived by the Hornets in February.
Across his NBA career, Branham has already accumulated more than 200 regular-season appearances despite being only 23.
Orlando Has Already Had a Look at Branham
This isn't Branham's first involvement with the Magic.
He played for Orlando during NBA Summer League, producing several encouraging performances.
Branham scored 23 points against New Orleans and also recorded 15 points against Indiana and 13 against Chicago during his Summer League run.
That gave Orlando an extended opportunity to evaluate him before committing to a training-camp deal.
The connection extends beyond Summer League too.
Orlando's G League affiliate, the Osceola Magic, recently acquired Branham's G League rights, providing another possible route for him within the organisation if he does not make the NBA roster.
JD Davison Gets His Next Chance
Davison arrives in Orlando after spending last season with the Houston Rockets.
The 23-year-old appeared in 28 regular-season games, averaging 2.5 points, 1.2 rebounds and 1.3 assists in 7.8 minutes per game.
Houston eventually converted Davison from a two-way deal to a standard NBA contract before the postseason, although he was waived by the Rockets in August.
Now Orlando offers him another route back onto an NBA roster.
A Former G League MVP
Davison also has an impressive G League résumé.
The former Alabama guard was selected with the 53rd pick of the 2022 NBA Draft by Boston and spent his first three NBA seasons on two-way contracts with the Celtics.
His biggest breakthrough came away from the NBA roster.
Davison was named G League MVP for the 2024-25 season, demonstrating the production he can provide when given a larger role.
His challenge has been turning that success into consistent NBA minutes.
Orlando represents his latest opportunity to do exactly that.
Training Camp Competition in Orlando
Neither signing guarantees Branham or Davison a place on Orlando's opening-night roster.
Their Exhibit 10 contracts instead give both players an opportunity to compete during training camp and the preseason.
Orlando already has considerable guard depth, meaning the path to regular minutes won't be straightforward.
But both arrive with something to prove.
Davison is trying to turn his G League success into a permanent NBA role.
Branham is trying to show that a player selected in the first round only four years ago still has plenty of NBA basketball ahead of him.
Training camp will determine whether either can make that opportunity stick.
