Utah Jazz center Jusuf Nurkić will miss the start of the 2026-27 NBA regular season after suffering a partial plantar plate tear in the second toe of his right foot.
The Jazz confirmed on October 8 that Nurkić sustained the injury during their preseason game against the Denver Nuggets on October 4. He will be re-evaluated in four weeks, with the team providing a further medical update at that time.
Nurkić played 11 minutes against Denver, recording four points, five rebounds and four assists. He subsequently missed practice and Utah's second preseason meeting with the Nuggets.
The injury is a setback for the Jazz, who were preparing to begin the season with Nurkić as a key part of their frontcourt rotation.
The 32-year-old averaged 10.9 points, 10.4 rebounds and 4.8 assists across 41 games for Utah last season, starting 36 of those appearances.
His absence creates an immediate question at center. Jaxson Hayes and Mo Bamba could receive additional opportunities, while Jaren Jackson Jr. may also spend more time playing the position.
The four-week timetable is for a medical re-evaluation rather than a confirmed return. Nurkić's availability beyond that point will depend on his recovery.
